The The GNSS Radio Occultation Workshop is a 2-1/2 day workshop designed to facilitate deployment of future constellations of Global Navigation Satellite System receivers for remote sensing of the Earth’s atmosphere and ionosphere using the radio occultation (RO) technique. Radio occultation using Global Positioning System satellites was first demonstrated on the GPS/MET mission and later continued successfully on the CHAMP, SAC-C and GRACE missions. The six-satellite FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC constellation is currently operational providing weather data and approximately 2,000 profiles per day in the atmosphere and ionosphere. The recent National Research Council Decadal Survey For Earth Science recommended radio occultation constellations and missions for future deployment.

This workshop is a “working meeting” meant to define requirements and develop documents that guide implementation of future constellations. Speakers include agency representatives (NASA, NOAA, DoD, NSPO/Taiwan), scientists, engineers and companies that produce GNSS receivers. Discussion time and breakout sessions are part of the agenda.

The meeting is co-convened by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the University Consortium for Atmospheric Research, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Meeting attendance is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so register early.
